Arnold Dallas McPherson is a well regarded plaintiff personal injuries Law Firm. Our main office is in Bendigo where we have 8 lawyers and a total of 23 staff. We operate an office in Melbourne at Level 1, 224-236 Queen Street, Melbourne where we employ 3 full time Personal Injury lawyers and one Consultant Public Liability Lawyer together with 3 full time personal assistants.
We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced Legal Assistant to undertake the role of personal assistant to our Public Liability Consultant Lawyer in our Melbourne office.
Experience in plaintiff personal injuries law, particularly Public Liability and proficiency in audio-typing is essential. The successful applicant will be able to operate independently, self-manage and prioritise tasks effectively, have excellent computer skills and take pride in their personal presentation.
The assistant will be responsible to the solicitor they work for and ultimately to the Principal of the firm.
The assistant will deal with inquiries from other solicitors, barristers and other professionals associated with the conduct of matters.
1.The assistant will prepare documents and letters both at their own initiative and as instructed by the solicitor.
2.Briefs and Court Books will need to be produced.
3.The assistant will make appointments for clients for medicolegal examinations and request treating doctor reports.
4.The assistant will maintain the solicitor’s diary.
An integrated legal document management and accounting system FILEPRO is used, and the assistant will be required to either be or become familiar with this system.
Tax Invoices on matters will be prepared as directed by the solicitor and in the prescribed format.
Skills and Experience Required
- Previous experience in a litigation legal office
- Possess a working knowledge of Public Liability
- Knowledge of County and Supreme Court litigation procedure
- Excellent dicta-typing and word processing skills
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills
- Ability to act on own initiative
- Capacity to take responsibility
- Communicate successfully with a wide range of people
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs
- Maintain a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail
