One of Bendigo’s grandest and most historical Victorian era buildings is now the home of local personal injury law firm Arnold Dallas McPherson.

The building was established in the early 1870’s and was originally the State Savings Bank. The building located at 337 Hargreaves Street, has just recently undergone a facelift in order to revamp this already architecturally stunning building. The building was Heritage listed in 1972 and retains such status today.

Joseph Reed and Frederick Barnes designed the building. Among other things, Reed was also responsible for designing the State Library of Victoria, the Royal Exhibition Building which is of special relevance to lawyers, given that the Federal Parliament first sat in that building, and thereafter it was used by the Victorian State Parliament for the next 26 years, whilst Parliament House in Canberra was constructed. Reed also designed trades Hall in Melbourne, a special interest to us, given that we act for injured workers who are often unionists, and he also designed the Melbourne town Hall, along with a good portion of Melbourne University in its original state.

Reed was part of the architectural firm, Bates Smart. It was Bates Smart with who was responsible for designing the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Bendigo. Although Reed was not responsible for this particular design, the most notable recent work of Bates Smart was Federation Square. Bates Smart has also done architectural design work for some of Australia’s largest law firms.

Today the building has been the head office of prominent Central Victorian Law Firm Arnold Dallas McPherson Lawyers for nearly 30 years. The building has been rejuvenated over the years and after recently undergoing paint work the building looks spectacular. The building houses the most Law Institute of Victoria Accredited Specialists of any regional Law Firm in the State and the team has vast experience in all types of personal injury claims, including TAC, WorkCover, Comcare, VOCAT, Public Liability and Asbestos Claims.
