ADM Partner Shaun Marcus appeared before the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee in Canberra for its public hearing on the Costs Protection Bill 2023 on behalf of the Australian Lawyers Alliance in his role as their National President.
ADM supports the modified equal access cost model as proposed in this Bill as a significant step forward for victim survivors of discrimination, including sexual harassment, at work.
Very few victims of harassment or discrimination are able to bring a claim for compensation or other forms of redress due to the significant power imbalance that exists between an individual and a big corporation.
If the Bill is passed victims of harassment will be able to bring claims for compensation in Court without fear of a Cost order being made against them.
This will be the game changer for victims of sexual harassment and discrimination. Finally, claims will be possible. ADM fully supports these new Laws.
